2014: Over and out.

Roger that.  Or rather, Pol Roger that.  Yes indeed, the line up for Vinoland's annual New Year's Eve bubbly tasting includes a bottle of Pol Roger Brut Réserve (Épernay), along with a bottle of Louis Roederer Brut Premiere (Reims) and a bottle of Mumm Napa, 2008, Devaux Ranch (Napa Valley).  A nice selection of bubbly, each one very distinct from the others, each one yummy in its own way.
I wish everyone a very happy and healthy 2015.  Happy New Year to one and all!
Over and out, 2014.

VG: for some reason I have to word my comment this way: The blogging body from NH's right hand to your left coast seem to be on a similar track.
Interesting how Mumm is often vintage specific!

Pol Roger used to be my go-to sparkler. Always a good deal and always a solid wine.

Happy turn of the year to all--and I hope the happy continues.

In 2015, I will have two new books out. The Taylor book--finally--in April, and in October, a book my wife and I put together from 850 letters between her mom and dad and a number of Stars and Stripes (US Army newspaper) stories that her dad and his newspaper Army buddies, like Andy Rooney, wrote from 1942-1945.

My father-in-law was on Eisenhower's staff, and was the only reporter in the room during the German surrender negotiations. His is the historical account of the official surrender at Reims.

In any case, 2015 has already taken off for us. Now, all we need are people to buy books, which is becoming a slog!

NHW: Like some Champagne, California sparkling wines can be vintage or NV.

Thud: Bottoms up!

Tomasso: I tasted all three wines blind: the Pol Roger was very complex and most French-like.
The collaborative book sounds interesting.

The army book sounds right for me.

There's much about England in the letters. My father-in-law was not only stationed in London with the Stars and Stripes, he and Rooney trained with Commandos and air gunners, traveled the countryside, got to know Britons, and wrote home about it all. Fascinating original source material, as we journalists say.
